Should I review Hatchet 3?
Wiki Article
Hatchet 3 was the film that was a horror in the Hatchet trilogy. It follows the story of Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures as well as his escapade through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.
The strength of the movie lies in its practical special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects as well as sets. This is a departure from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. It also features several truly terrifying moments.
The cast gives a strong performance, with Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly terrifying villain. The dialogue is a bit snarky and witty to feel like a true 1980s slasher film at times. There are some really funny moments that offer an entertaining contrast to the heart-wrenching violence.
Unfortunately, because the budget is extremely limited (reportedly one million dollars), most locations that are featured in the movie are reused locations from earlier films in the series. For example the exact boathouse location was featured twice within the movie. A lot of the locations seem like they've been reused from other films from this series. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, and this could result in the film (click clip) feeling almost too familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was an enjoyable series. I liked the gory thrills it provided as well as the engaging performances by its cast members.
